The program is for non-professional users with extensive knowledge of HD Recording and can not be used by those who can not play any musical instrument. In fact, almost all the operations of composition and arrangement take place in a simple and intuitive graphical environment.
The program comes with a library of pre-recorded loops to be used freely to compose and 50 virtual instruments that can be used directly through a virtual keyboard on the computer, through any musical instrument that can be connected to the computer using the input jack or audio interfaces for third parties, or through a MIDI keyboard connected to an interface audio. Apple also offers the GarageBand Jam Packs, libraries of loops and virtual instruments add to enrich the library of GarageBand. The Internet contains Loop Vistual Instruments and third-party purchase, or even freeware.
You can import MIDI tracks created with other programs but can not be edited. You can not export MIDI tracks. The music created can be exported as AIFF, AAC and MP3 through integration with iTunes.
From '09 version includes eight interactive lessons based on piano and guitar with Tim Blane 8 as a teacher. You can also purchase classes by famous artists such as Sting.
GarageBand comes with the iLife package and can not be purchased separately. Was presented by Steve Jobs, Apple's CEO, during the keynote January 6, 2004. The singer John Mayer showed up with the Jobs program.
GarageBand was originally developed by Emagic, the same company that developed the program of professional music Logic Audio. Apple acquired the company in July 2002 and includes iLife GarageBand project.
